ProMed Healthcare
Family and pediatric medical practices managed by ProMed Healthcare in the village of Richland were housed in two separate leased facilities. The pediatrics group was fast outgrowing the available facilities for expansion, and the family practice was planning to expand services to this fast growing rural area. Situated on a slight incline, the facility is built into the hill providing accessible entries at both levels. The upper level main entrance provides access to a shared lobby and reception area for the two practices, and lower level entries provide direct access to a Community Room and future medical suites. There is also an elevator providing an internal barrier free connection of the two levels. The pediatric practice includes 14 exam rooms surrounding an open nurses station and work area. This central area is highlighted by a long L shaped "skylight" light fixture brightening this internal space and making patients and employees more comfortable. Playful paint and wall vinyl colors provide staff with differentiation between exam rooms while also contributing to pediatric patients' comfort. Doors to the pediatric exam rooms feature a small window near the floor which helps staff avoid opening the door onto a toddler or crawling baby who may be playing there. The family practice "side" is arranged in three groups of three exam rooms, each with a small nurse station. There is one "spare" exam room in this suite which is decorated to be used for the pediatric patients seen by these doctors. The doctor's offices are located at the outer corner of each group of exam rooms and their larger windows give a visual anchor to those portions of the exterior elevations. Also sharing this side of the building is the administration and files area. Common use functions such as reception, lab, casting, procedures, trauma, and radiology are located down the center "core", accessed from pediatrics and family practice by flanking corridors on each side. Staff entrance, coats and lockers, lounge, and toilet facilities are located at the rear of this central core. The lower level houses billing / computer records, the Community Room, archival storage, and mechanical spaces along a main diagonal corridor. In "front" of this corridor there remains over 5,000 square feet of lease space ready to be finished for use by other medical specialists or services such as a pharmacy. These spaces have direct access to the outdoors and convenient parking to allow operations independent from the practices above, yet the internal corridor, stairs, and elevator also make it possible to use services provided at the upper level practices and vice versa. The structure's massing was purposely subdivided to appear as a cluster or village of rural and agrarian buildings. With a footprint of over 15,000 square feet, it is one of the largest buildings in Richland. The delineation of the forms, fieldstone, wood siding, and classical lighting fixtures, along with the stone retaining walls and landscaping all contribute to help settle it comfortably into the landscape. |
