Potter Park Zoo · Feline & Primate House

The major rebuilding and renovation of a 1935 vintage zoo facility for the City of Lansing is the thematic kickoff project for a Master Plan that was finished in 1984. Marshburn/Bunkley Associates was hired from a group of over thirty architectural firms because of our ability to research and solve unique, one-of-a-kind problems.

The unique program needs of this facility necessitated separate controlled and secured environments for public viewers, keepers, and two very diverse animal types (large cats and monkeys) without any overlap or conflict—all within the confines of an existing building. This is the first major project the City of Lansing has undertaken at the zoo in over twenty years.
