Hillsdale College · Administration & Faculty Buildings

Central Hall, the focal point of the wooded central campus of this private college that does not accept federal funding or control, is symmetrically flanked by two other 110+ year old buildings that are underutilized due to age and inefficient layout of the structures. These buildings are increasingly difficult to remodel and make installation of utility systems for current needs equally challenging.

Working closely with Hillsdale College officials, we determined it was cost effective to replace the buildings with new ones. The first will consolidate administrative departments, presently scattered around campus, under one roof. The second companion building will provide office and conference room space for faculty. Extensive sitework will include improved student walks, new landscaping and new vehicular traffic loops and parking. The new buildings are designed in masonry with detailing similar to the Italianate/Empire features of the 150-year-old Central Hall. Interiors will reuse architectural elements from the removed buildings to maintain a link to the past.
